How does the hydraulic steering work?

We got a 1978 Bayliner without steering pump.
Only the pipes are in and running to the back.

Is the steering pump normally direct on (behind) the steering wheel?

Yep...the only two I've dealt with....the helm is the pump, and if it's a brand new system it usually takes a few times to bleed all the air out of it.

No, it's not new, it's complete missing, we have to replace it and the one on the flybridge also.

Oh well then just follow the instruction that will come with the new system....Personally the two boats I've have with hydraulic steering (to me anyway) wasn't that much easier to turn than the old well greased two cable system.

Now I'm talking outboards here. I just noticed you said Bayliner, right? Is this and I/O?

Yep, it,s a Bayliner Encounter from 1978.

I.m wondering how it works with two helms, one on the flybridge and one inside. The pipes are still in the boat.

Inboard Outboard.....if that be the case them I telling you incorrect.....I assumed an outboard and I should have clarified that first.

Yep, inboard, 2x Volvo 290 with Volvo 280 drives.

I was afraid of that and I apologize for assuming wrong. I only deal with outboards and your set up will be different. I'll PM a couple of guys that will know for you or your could repost your question in the I/O section as the ones that will know your system will be hanging out there.
