How does this happen (pic incl)

In a prev post I described how out of the blue my 2006 3.0 L volvo penta GLP-D started bleeding oil all over the place. Just 2 weeks after I had it in to the shop for a carb recall.

After going out to the lake and looking things over it turns out that the fuel pump was loose (very loose the bolts were 'finger loose). I have subsequently torqued down the bolts to spec and everything seems ok.

My questions are: if the shop didnt loosen the pump (they say that they didnt touch it and there didnt seem to be tool marks on the painted bolts) how would the fuel pump come loose suddenly.

I wonder if it was never tightened down properly at the factory and the paint was holding it on tight enough so that it didn't leak?

Any thoughts has anyone heard of this before?

Another one of lifes impossible questions to answer. Obviously it was left loose at the factory. Tighten it down and forget it. People and machines do make mistakes and you have to just move on from there.

That seems to be the common wisdom I have sent the picture to the dealer who will notify volvo in case there was any damage done and like you said I tightened it down and I will move on.

Sounds like you covered any future warranty claims, good move.

I hope so, The issue started 1 month before my warranty expired but was not 'fixed'(I hope any way) until after the warranty expired. I also had the dealer document our conversations regarding my concerns that took place while it was under warranty.
