how fair dose the hull need to be

i have sanded back a wooden hull with a sander and it has dug in in places and hull is up and down wood being wood so i have sanded off the humps and it is time to fill the hollows how much off a hollow will the glass cloth fill and how much will the moisture barrier fill 1 mill i would fill but do i need to fill less than that. im useing a dubble layer off 300gm {10oz} cloth then using the west epoxy system for the moisture barrier any help would be great

Ahhh, the dreaded ups and downs of mechanical sanding!

I'm not a glass guy, but I would say it all depends on how pretty you want the boat to look. If you don't mind it looking like a Billy goats butt sewed up with a grape vine you can just glass over what you have. If you want the job to look professional, then you'll need to do some extra work.

I would use an epoxy fairing compound and a wide blade like a 12" sheetrock finishing tool and fair and sand (by hand) before laying the glass. Keep fairing and sanding until you get it they way you like, then lay your glass.

Like I said, I'm not a glass guy so maybe one of the glass gurus will reply with a better method.

You are correct sir :) .

Being a wooden boat if you fill your lows with glass you will make things worse when trying to 'fair' out.
The glass will cure harder then the wood..so when you sand/fair it you will dish out more wood around the glass.
