How far below water line should prop be?

The back of my sons boat is 16 in, high, how far<br />down in water should prop be? Is 16 in, to much

Laymans terms not technical.<br />It has nothing to do with the height of the boat but is referenced by how much draft the boat has. Just above the prop there is a flat plate, commonly called cavitation plate. This plate should be even with the bottom, of the boat at the motor, for the initial installation or slightly above. Too high, motor may turn in air so to speak. Too low and it will cause additional drag.<br />Hope this helps. If not, we can get more specific.

Thanks Mike<br /> I should have known that, But it's been a long <br />time since i have ran outboards, The last boat i hade was a 36 foot cape islander, Ran it about 12 years, Then nothing for the last 6 years until now, I picked up a 21 ft, starfast<br /> thanks again <br /> River Run
