How Fast Can It Go?

As stated in my other thread did the solo run yesterday for the first time. Out on the boat by myself was GREAT, and the lake was not very crowded at all when I first went out so I cranked up the stereo (not a very good one I have to admit) and was cruising and just taking it easy listening to some rather loud music. I NEVER do this if others are close by.

Anyway I finally ran it at WOT (I know what that means now, had to look it up) and going one direction it got up to 53 mph and coming back 52. Not sure how accurate the speedometer is but that seemed fast enough to me. Sure glad I went with the 4.3 instead of the 3.0 I know that much.

Saw another boat going past me and looked like he was going pretty fast. I got on mine and caught him and passed him. We were probably 100 yards from each other on the lake. I just wanted to see if I could go as fast as he looked like he was going.

I do have to admit though racing is something that is in my blood. I still think my yellow Volvo 850 T5R is one of the fastest cars I have ever driven and I don't let any grass grow under my tires. I did not get anywhere close to the other boat on the water though, just a straight line many yards away from him with virtually no other boats out on the open water at the time.

That's pretty good. With my 18.5 footer with the 3.0L, I could only get it up to 34 mph on Saturday.

When I want to go fast, I drive my other toy....

2 boats going in the same direction = a race.

See if you can get another boat to clock you with a GPS; better than a speedometer on most boats.

Nice car!

I have to admit it felt like a race to me. To be honest when I saw the other boat going so fast I didn't think I could go that fast. Then when I caught him and passed him I felt pretty good.

If I used an extra 3 or 4 dollars worth of gas it was worth it. That was the first time I really ran the boat wide open since I got it. I usually drive my Volvo to get good gas mileage and get around 26 mpg, but I also know it will hit passing gear at 100+ mph and top speed according to Motor Trend is 152 mph.

Yes, but have you verified that claim yet :D

( Not that I'd ever encourage that kind of behaviour.) ;)

Shhhh, don't tell my kids.....
Once upon a time in a faraway place I had a car that the magazines said would go in excess of 150. Well, one night on a deserted stretch of interstate I decided to put that to the test. I saw 140 on the speedometer, car was still accelerating but I'd had enough.

NO WAY.

I can be kind of crazy, but not that crazy.

I do know that it will finally shift into it's highest gear (automatic of course) at 127 mph. From there it jumped to 130 when I shut down. One time in the middle of Kansas I just wanted to see where it would shift so I just held it to the floor until it shifted. I had hit passing gear a few times at 100 and just could not believe it.

Here's a picture of the car I'm talking about:

It does feel good.
I used to always say to my wife, when full throttle and even fishing boats passed me, I want a bigger/faster boat.
Now I have that bigger/faster boat,:D and I almost never run her to full potential.
I have to admit though, it is a lot of fun when you catch and pass the guy with his big "go fast" boat with the "look at me crowd" and his buddies look at me then him and can't figure out what just happened.

The red Crownline and Torino are some sweet rides.
And that Volvo, I don't think I've ever seen a Volvo that color. Those older Volvo's are some pretty durable automobiles.

On a side note I would sure love a late model Volvo S60 R in Sonic Blue, kinda the older brother to your car I guess. What a sweet mochine.

The yellow Volvo is one of 185 imported into the US in 1995. There were 904 T5R's imported to the US and of that 185 were yellow and the remaining 719 were black. What I want now is a yellow wagon. Only about 25 of them imported is my guess. Saw one for sale in Canada recently, but he wanted way too much for it.

Happened to me last year. I was running 57-58 leaving my friends in the dust when a 38 Donzi with twin 1075's passes me like I'm standing still.

There is always someone faster.

I had to look up 1075's as I thought the number could not be a HP rating and twins. MMMMMM Yummy. Nice pic too !

On my lake, the fishing (bass) boats with the 200 on the back ARE the fast boats.:D

Okay - that dude in the picture above is picking his ***. So fast he **** himself?

I saw a Donzi once at our little marina. It was cool - an older one, I think it was a cuddy. But nice.
