How fast is your Glastron?

I was just wondering what everyones top MPH is in their Glastron? I purchased my 01 GX 185 Glastron late in the season and have yet to get a top speed out of her. It's a 4.3 Mercruiser setup, swinging a 23p prop. My buddy has an 05 GX 185 4.3 Volvo Penta with a 23p 4 blade ss prop and gets 52 mph out of her. I am expecting around the same results. Let me know what your numbers are...

I have a 2008 GT 185 with 4.3. It still has the stock 3 blade aluminum 23p prop. I have checked multiple times with GPS. Note: I am at around 800 - 1000 feet above sea level. Your location will effect this.

All taken with GPS.
2 people (wife and I) - quarter tank of gas - maxed at 52MPH
2 people (wife and I) - 3/4 tank of gas - maxed at 51MPH.
4 people (had some friends with us) - 3/4 tank of gas - maxed at 47MPH.

Also your speed can vary 1-2 MPH by where someone is in the boat. Have people in the bow will slow you down. Put them all on the back bench seat and you can really trim it out and fly.

It's not rocket science so I imagine under similar circumstances you should see similar results.

Roughly 50 Mph out of a 1976 V-184 with a 3.0L Volvo in-line 6 and a 19P prop....

I don't care what model/year your boat is... just looking to have a good thread. But I am expecting 50ish as well. That's awesome that you can get her close to 50. My Stingray is in the 40 range.

51.2 with one person in my 2000 SX195 220hp 2bbl. 5.0 Volvo last week - the biggest help was switching to SS Apollo 23p 4 blade to get out of hole better, it came with a alum 3 blade 21p and it was awful. In the summer its 1-2 mph slower - probably thinner humid Florida air.

I admire that the 195hp V6's are about as fast as the 220 v8's

1995 SSV170 w/ 2000 Yamaha OX66 150HP. Via GPS the fastest I've had it is 55MPH. There's room for more, but at about 53-54 is starts to chine walk.

I had fun the other day when this 26ft with 300hp Yamaha came blowing by me in the intercoastal speed zone. So I decided to ride his wake at 50+ and he was surprised that I was right behind him. I had to throttle back to keep from running up his stern.

Sorry a little late on the forum, but I have a Glastron 2000 20.5 GS fish/Ski with the Volvo Penta 5.7L Duoprop I got used just last March. I was just out by myself in San Diego bay with a full tank and I hit 62MPH by GPS. After several runs at that speed my heat alarm went off and I noticed the temp had come up about 20-25degrees. cooled off fine after slowing down. That also happens if the flush hose does not have good pressure or a good seal when I flush the boat afterwards.

62 mph is chuckin right along... pretty impressive for stock out of the box. Sounds like you might have an impeller going south. But impressive numbers

It does move along. It is the fuel injected model. I just had the impeller changed!! The mechanic says these will overheat if the flush hose is not tight to the engine so he drilled a hole so I could use that flusher that clamps and seals over the inlets better. He also said to rev the engine a little while flushing. That has helped keep it cooler. I think the water pump and impeller may be slightly too small for the 5.7L engine as it can't keep it cool at full throttle for more than a few minutes. (or maybe that was intended??)

An un-compromised cooling system is adequate enough to keep the engine cool at WOT for as long as there is gas in the tank. Sounds like you have cooling system issues. Would be best if you start another thread in the Volvo I/O engine repair forum if you want to discuss it.

1999 Glastron Carlson CSX 23, 454 Mag(385hp), 23p 3blade Tempest Plus
I have gps at 65mph w/ my wife and about 3/4 tank of fuel. I noticed the speedo at about 67mph. Busy lake chop.
I was by myself heading to ramp one day after a break in the rain. Windy ripple chop, 1/4 tank of fuel, by myself, no cooler, speedo reading 71mph. I still want to try another prop. I dont think I am doing too bad for all stock....for now.

Well I was able to get her out Saturday for a bit. Boat ran great and was able to get 52mph with the original 3 blade aluminum 23p prop.. That was half tank of fuel and 2 adults 2 kids too. I am curious to see what a stainless 4 blade 23 p will do...

My GT205 w/ Merc 4.3 MPI will do 55 mph w/ the 21 pitch aluminum prop. I suspect we could 60 mph if we had a SS 23 pitch prop.
