1978 mercury 90 hp inline six two-stroke on a 17" FiberGlass Richline Bass Boat. Anyone have a guess at what the top speed should be close to?

Depending on the weight of your boat, the mercs compression, and the prop you have...I'd guess in the low 40's.

That's close to my guess which would have been 40-ish.

Dang I expected a little bit more out of a 90 horse. Well last time I was out i was hitting 30 mph according to my gps and that was with a bad fuel leak at the fuel pump so we'll see what it gets up to next time

There are a lot of factors that determin your speed. Just because you have a 90 for a motor, if you have a low pitch prop it will effect teh top-end speed. also the trim will effect the top speed. You never mentioned what rpm you were running. WOT? Good luck.
