Re: How Fast?

jb just posted a simple formula in another thread, maybe you can find it. i think it was:
square root of (hp/total weight) X bottom factor.
bottom factors were 200 for deep v, 175 for semi, and 150 for flat.
i think thats right. it works for some, but is very simplistic and assumes set conditions, props, and lots of other things.
its a nice, simple tool though. good luck-

Re: How Fast?

I have the exact setup you're talking about. With the load you're talking about I don't believe you'll get 25 mph. I clocked mine with a GPS with just me @ 170 lbs. my son @ 165 lbs , 6 gallons of fuel and a 16 pitch aluminum prop and only got 27 mph.

I'm fixng to get a lower pitch prop because with the 16 pitch it takes forever to getup on plane and it will not getup on plane a load of about 500 lbs. total.

Re: How Fast?

I found JB's formula to be surprisingly accurate on my boat. It was within 10% of the actual top speed. Agree that there are too many factors involved to use any formula for anything other than an estimate. JB's would appear to be much more accurate than the prop RPM method , guessing at the slippage.
