After rebuilding my mercarb over and over because it was getting gunked up last year, I decided to go all out. I siphoned out all my gas. I found out there was a good amount of water in the tank (from not filling it up before winterizing since in Houston you can almost take it out yearround). I also replaced my fuel pump, added the water/fuel separator and bought a Redline Weber k852 carb as a replacement:

http://www.redlineweber.com/html/application_guide/mercury_cruiser_6_4_1_performanc.htm

I've been happy with it, but was just wondering if you all think it's better than stock.

Is there anything special I should do to prevent it from getting gummed up like my old mercarb did?

Re: how good is redline weber carb over mercarb?

I was doing a search here for redline weber and found this link:

http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=24;t=000985#000011

it seems to say that the redline weber is not coast guard certified. Is that true? Do I need to do anything about it?

Is there a way to send a message to a person on the board? It looks like coupedeville works there.

Like I was saying in another post. There are certain parts that need to be marine certified on a boat.

If I was you I would seriously consider taking the boat to a well established certified marine technition and have your boat looked at.
You already have an automotive carb and starter.....what else that you don't know about is lurking in your boat waiting to cause you problems.

with the carb I was buying a "marine carb" or so I thought...

It says this on their site:

Complies with:

“Recreational Boating Safety Regulations”

“Code of Federal Regulations” CFR 183 Subpart J, Carburetors

“United States Coast Guard"

then you should be fine. just check to make sure that it has a return line back to the fuel pump. that is one of the biggest diffs in a street vs marine carb
