I have a 1992 30 evinrude long shaft that I would like swap the lower part with the 1985 25 evinrude short shaft, What does it take to do this ? I checked the part numbers on the exhaust mid section and they are the same. I have a jet unit on the 25 hp and just need more power and also the 92 motor is in way better condition.

I thought I would bump this back to top, I just want to know if someone had done this and how big of a job it's going to be.

Being new to all this, I could be totally wrong

Leg from a short shaft
Shorter drive shaft
Shorter gear rod
Maybe a shorter exhaust, but not 100% sure

The usual objection to changing shaft lengths is the cost of parts,, in particular the drive shaft itself, if you have to buy them.

If you already have all the necessary parts and you have checked the interchangeability then its perfectly feasible.

How difficult it will be depends on your mechanical skills. What would be a simple task to one person could be next to impossible .for someone else.

Can't say I understand totally what you're trying to do but: it might be easier to jack up the transom and keep the long shaft?

If you want to put the jet drive from the 25 onto the 30, it should work if the exhaust housing part #s match, 1992 30 short shaft same as 1985 25 short shaft. You will need to swap exhaust housings and water tube as well as the lower units.
