A couple of weeks ago i had the boat and trailer weighed came in at 9120 lbs
looked at my registration for the trailer this morning and it shows the following
gross weight 8000 lbs
unladen weight 2075 lbs

So i'm over by 1100 lbs. How hard is it going to be to increase the gross weight to 10000
According to what i've been able to find each axle is able to support 7000 lbs so that's 14000 lbs total

Hello,
I live in Pa, What does the stamped plate (gvwr) say on your trailer? If you dont have a Plate then there can be some issues. Lowering your weight in pa is easy but you will never beable to increase it above the manufacturers recomended weight unless you cheat and re-title or buy overweight permits to haul your boat every weekend. Call a pa auto licence broker they can give you more info if you call penn dot you will be on hold for houres and you have to speak indian to understand them.

My "A D D" kicked in so I read your post again. as long as it says somewear on your trailer thoes axel weights you gave you should be fine. Take it to you local Pa licence broker and get it done. They have to see the documentation in person so you will have to take the trailer. Around $60.00 out the door.

Although the axle weight rating may be 7000#, you also need to make sure the tires on those axles also have 3500# load ratings EACH. Likewise, the each spring pack needs a 3500# rating. And of course there is also the frame construction to consider. Did the manufacturer limit the GVWR to 8000 because of the frame, tires, spriings, or all of them. It seems really odd that a manufacturer would put two 7000# axles on a trailer whose GVWR by design is only 8000.

I'd be willing to bet you've got yourself a LOAD RITE trailer. They are made right here in Pa, so go to their website (loadrite dot com) and find a local dealer. With the VIN number he should be able to look up the trailers GVWR. If your title or registration is in fact understated, the dealer can help get you the proper documentation for re-issue of any new papers.
Good luck.
