I am thinking of getting an older, fiberglass, 12' to 14', (but no longer), runabout, you know, windshield, steering wheel, remote controls, etc, maybe seating for 4, (probably back-back seats), with maybe a 25-35hp older, outboard. Problem is we have a 4cyl, front wheel drive, and don't want something bigger. I can borrow a truck, but its a hassle. I do occasionally tow a steel framed, utility trailer with 24" high plywood sides, (frame is ex tent trailer) and have had 1/2 ton of gravel, with no problems. I can find out the weight of a motor, and any thing else I might put in the boat, but any ball park quess' as to the weight of a boat like I describe, say maybe a 12ft to make it easier, or a 14 if you know, just trying to see if I could tow it, or whether it would be a lot heavier than I am thinking it might be. have attatched a pic of the type of boat I am talking about. . Thanks for any help. imagesCAPF739W.jpg

I had a 14' alum runabout with a 30 hp OB all loaded up and on the trailer was only 1000 lbs. Should be able to go 1500 with your 4 cyl
see what your towing capacity is, can look it up, some 4 cyl do quite well towing on fairly level ground

What you've got in the picture there should tow with a 4 banger, as long as your ramps aren't too steep.

Baloney on ramps too steep and all that hullablu. Boats of which you speak weighed 500#. Rest of the engine, gear and trailer another 750. If you had it balanced right on a concrete floor you could roll it around without a dolly lifting the tongue....BTDT. Hook it to your bicycle (sort of) and go and have fun. A 40 hp engine of the era would push it at a reasonable clip (25-27, maybe 30 on a cold day) with 2 adults, couple of cans of gas, bait and gear. Could water ski a light person on 2 with one in the boat. BTDT
