Anyone have an idea how heavy my 1973 25hp Evinrude is, and it's a manual start if that matters

Many folks are surprized to find out how " light " these older motors are.

The 1973 Evinrude Brochure says 85 lbs
I would of thought that 25 hp weighted more than 85 lbs myself, not at all questioning what you posted, just I would have been wrong thinking it would weigh in around a 100 lbs, me guessing. My 1985 6hp Evinrude weights 58 lbs and I believe my 1990 Johnson 15 hp weights 72 lbs.

If I said the 18/20 weighed 85 lbs would you think that was reasonable? Well except for a few parts the 18/20 and 25 of that design are the same engine, so they weigh the same
In the early 70s a 150 merc weighed about 272lbs. Power trim was a separate entity

Wow. I can't believe they are that light. My 18hp feels like 115#. My 10hp feels like 85. Maybe that is because they are both 1958's

'58 10 hp is 68 lbs. 18 is 77 lbs. (actually, that is the '57 FD-11 weight).

Interesting...
Still new to outboards, but out of curiosity, I found a brochure online for 1958 Evinrudes..
Seems the 18hp Fastwin was 80lbs(Add 7 lbs for Electric start), and the 10hp Sportwin was about 68lbs..

That is, assuming your 58's are Evinrudes...
Neat stuff!!

Edit:
oldboat1 beat me to this by a minute! lol.. I'd listen to him over me though.. I'm still new to outboards.
For reference, the brochure I found is here: http://boatinfo.no/lib/evinrude/broc...nrude.html#/28

Looks like a scanned copy of a 58 brochure, but I could be wrong.. LOL...
Still, it's interesting to see the weights of the older outboards.. Pretty amazing!
At least to me, as a new to outboards person.. :D

Well haha I guess they feel heavier when you have to walk the motors to the boat all the time. Really have to prepare yourself!! Lol

The older motor may look heavier because of their large cowlings.----New motors are compact and everything is squeezed in.-Take for example the 63 model 10 hp Johnson.----Take the cover off and everything is there to work on , even the reed valves.----Try that on a say 1985 9.9 model.
