How high should I mount my Evinrude V4?

Hello. All I want is top speed. I have been told that the evinrude v4 (Mine is a '72 125) work best mounted on the highest notch. I have mine on the next to highest now. What should I do?

Yake a picture of the back of your boat and post it (hey, I still need to do that). Someone brighter then me can then comment on if it's high enough.

Well, I dont have a camera handy, but the top fin(?) or the top plane surface of the lower unit is exactly on level with the bottom edge of the boat. I havent had a cavitation problem and am wondering if I can go up to the last notch and get away with it. I also have a CMC tilt.

The antiventilation plate (the plate just above the prop) should be flush or slightly above the keel of the boat. You can mount higher on a trial basis but you need to watch water pressure and blow-out may become a problem.

Hull design and prop design have a lot to do with it. I run a System Match prop on my flat bottom and in smooth water I can go almost 2" above the keel with no blowout on turns. In rough water I get some air to say the least.

it all depends on the hull design, some boats such as mine can run the propshaft 3" lower than the bottom plane of the boat, other boats need them much lower. <br /><br />my advise it to keep raising it up until it starts to cavitate, you lose top end speed, your holeshot suffers greatly or you lose h2o pressure
