i was flushing my motor on the hose and emptying and packing my boat away for the next 2 months(going on deployment monday) and i decided to try to fix my new tach that didnt work right...i installed this new tach a couple weeks ago and when i would turn on the motor...the needle would just go to 7000 rpm and stay there.....wiring is correct and only possible way to wire it...i had it set on the #6 position which is supposedly 20 pole.....i got to thinking.. well let me just try different settings while its running....so i started moving the pole setting down one click at a time....when down 2 or 3 settings and my tach starts working....at neutral idle my tach is reading 1000-1100...rev'd it up a bit.. and needle movement seems to match the rev'ing,i wont have a chance to water test it for 2 months....it is set on #3 or 4..which is 8 or 10 pole!....how is this possible....i thought 1990 120 force's were 20 pole?

Indicator on tach is not aligned to correct number?

Maybe your motor is not as old as your boat?
In 1992, Force 120hp went to a 12 pole tach.
