i have a 5 hp suzuki (1979)that does not want to run very good @ 50:1. what would be the leanest fuel mixture i could run. this motor runs @ a idle 90% of the time, just a trolling motor for a drift boat.i added aprox. .5 gal. strait gas to about 2 gal. mixed gas (50:1) tonight and it ran much better.

thank you david

Davy at that mix it will seem to run better for a while and it will then die a slow death due to lack of lubrication. My suggestion is if you want to run the engine at continual slower speeds is to decrease the prop pitch, to one of the lowest available, buy a drag sock, and fine tune your carbs. This will keep the rpms up and the boat speed down.

Amsoil has a pre-mix oil that is made to run at 100:1. It would be great for your application.

Dave

Davy, it may be that your engine could use a tune up also. Don't use less than 50:1 its not worth it. The different prop idea is a good bet. That will keep you plugs from fouling. They usually make a sailboat auxilliary prop for just that purpose.
