How long before water comes from tell tale. 1982 Johnson 115

Got the lower unit back on after seals and water pump replacement. I ran it with muffs, started up like a champ after a year sitting.. Gave it a just couple minutes but almost nothing from the pee hole. Is that before or after the thermostat in this motor and how long before I should see a solid stream? Outdoor temps were in the 70s.

OK, thanks. Pulled the lower unit off and disassembled the new water ump. All looked good. Could see the impeller had spun on the plate. The cup was really glued on so taking it apart I probably bent it out of shape. So stuck getting another new pump. Any thoughts? The lower unit went on smoothly but is it even possible I missed the water pipe? Or check something simple like a clogged tell tale. Shoot, should have done that before pulling the unit again.

Any of those. With the lower off take the garden hose and push water up through the tube may be a blockage. Or you missed the tube putting it on. Or no key in the impeller.

Water should come out the tell tale in just seconds !!---And the thermostat has nothing to do with the tell tale operation.

Try unplugging the tell tale discharge tube with a wire and/or some air pressure to see if you can unplug it. It could be the tube plugged up is all. When motor is running, check the temp of the head to see if you can hold your hand on it for a bit without it burning your hand, or better yet, try it with an infrared temp gun (cheap ones work). This will let you know if you are getting water thru the water jacket or not.

Some motors are shy and do not pee well on a hose.-----Water from a hose could have a lot more air dissolved than water from the lake.----Test run and see how the tell tale behaves at the lake.

Or you missed the tube putting it on.

That was gonna be my first guess since I've done that a couple times.
