As more and more of us buy used or project boats or even get a ok boat that has title problems I have to ask the big question. How long did it take before you put it in the water that first time.

For me and my current new to me old boat its been 2 months and counting

Just like my women, she was young and wet. I made her mine as soon as I saw her!

That's kind of a loaded question:rolleyes:
I needed multiple answers.

But I went with hours. That is for the boat I have now.:D

We took it out and the owner showed me every thing, The best way to opperate her, Everything! And my wife and I took her out that weekend to the lake and had a great time just being out on the water and exploring the Lakes(L.B.L) We never get bored of going out there, We can stay out there forever it seems like.

I will let you know as soon as I get it in the water. Probably tonight, I hope. The nearest ramp is only 15 minutes away. Went there last night and it started to storm right when I started to back down the ramp. Haven't put a boat in the water for about 20 years, so I am a little anxious.

That is a tricky question... too many boats to list them all, but for my TRUE first boat, it was a gift from my grandfather when I was 12, and I had already been using the boat for 3 years when he "officially" gave it to me, so it had been on the water quite some time ;)

For the majority of the others, I water tested them before buying, so I would say, same day? I would usually take them out right away to run them a bit harder than you could with the PO onboard ;)

As for my latest boat (the one I have currently), I bought it, and when backing it up, the tilt lock failed, motor fell down, dug into the dirt and punched the transom... which led to my discovery that the entire boat was rotted. :(

that was 3 years ago, and I'm about 2 weeks away from getting it on the water, after a total rebuild.

There's no option for 'a few days', but that's what it took me. I bought it last summer and then went out of town for a couple of days before I could use it.

37 minutes. Yes - that is a specific number, but I recall the time of when I left my buddy's house (clock in my Dodge) and when I looked at the time on my blackberry while I was in the water.....floating because I had flooded the engine (first time on a boat).

My first boat, bought when I knew zilch about boating, actually didn't work and it was about a month before I could get it operational (and only through the help of the forums here).

My next boat, which I just got a few months ago, I test drove first, then paid for it, and then took it right back out in the lake chain for the rest of the afternoon.

Re: How long did it take to put it in the water that first time?

I bought my first boat about 2 months ago, took it out the first time 3 weeks ago, took it out the first time it was running properly 2 weeks ago. I knew nothing at all about boat motors and the one I purchased had been sitting for over 2 years. Paid $400 though for 1967 14' starcraft in great condition, and the 1972 40hp johnson, which runs perfect now after putting about $75 into it. So it took me a month and a half to get the motor running properly along with putting in seats, steering cables, and some other small things.

Months here..... Bought the current boat in January and all you could do on my lake then was to ice fish. Had to wait until the end of March....now it is in the water and I ain't going to be happy about pulling it out.

My first boat, a couple of weeks, it was a freebie and needed some fixin first. My second boat was new (below) and was in the water about 15minutes after signing the paperwork. Then we got hit with a major storm...hm...bad sign that.

Completed the paperwork, slapped the plate on the trailer and away we went. Oh, did I mention that 15 minutes later we discovered we had no drain plug? Thought of it as we were tooling down the interstate. Had to drive back to the dealer and get one. 45 mintues later she floated off the trailer. Getting it back on...that's a whole 'nother story :D
