How long does bottom boat paint last if I redo it

I’m looking into changing the color of the bottom of my boat. I’m wondering how long will it last if I do? All the stuff I found online is if you leave it in the water year round. I don’t live on the water so it would be taken out after every use.

If stored on a trailer, antifouling paint is not needed, that is what your refering to ??

what is on the bottom now? is it black ablative anti-fouling? or a colored bottom paint?

why was your bottom painted if you have a trailer boat? did you buy a boat that was previously moored?

if you have black ablative paint on their now and you clean it and then recoat with 2 coats of black, it will last at least a decade on a trailer boat, coming off as will happen with ablative paint.

if you have a barrier coat and a colored bottom paint, and you want to change the color, you will at a minimum need to re-sand and recoat. it will last a long time on a trailer, coming off near the bunks and rollers from wear

if you have black ablative paint on there now and want to go to colored. you will need to sand off down to the fiberglass/gel and start over. at that point, you may want to just spray gel and re-gel the bottom

Depends on if you need the anti-fouling protection or for cosmetics only.

If you want anti-fouling protection you need a paint that can be taken in and out of the water. Some paint formulations will not do that.

You want a hard paint for cosmetics only. Sanded smooth and put two coats of Fiberglass Bottomkote ACT on it.

The paint is constantly “eroding”. If it starts to look bad, a scotch-brite pad and some water cleaned it right up.

Paint was still looked good when I sold the boat three years later
