How long should I wait?

How long should I wait to use acetone to clean the surface of freshly laid glass with poly resin? It's curing at 60 degrees F.

I would jump right in and start sanding, but I put a surface coat of hardener over it (as opposed to surfacing wax, and it seems to work as well or better), only problem is that it'll still gum up the sandpaper if I start sanding with it still on. But I don't want to mess up the glass I just laid, either.

until your married!

But for real though i would wait til its not tacky at all. Im using resin that has the wax so i will have to rough it up every time. each time i layer one on top of another i am going to have to eather sand or grind the previous application so i get bond. Extra work but the price was rite with the resin! I paid $6.40 per gallon. It was normally $32 or $34 a gallon but like i said the price was rite at less than $7 a gallon.

Been married for 5 years now... If only I had started on the boat restoration project about that long ago, I might make it out this season... :D

Well it's already tack-free. So I guess I'll try a test swatch on some of the extra glass that was coated but not used at the same time. Thanks for the info.

Where did you get that from? That's not a bad price, and since I'll need another 5g's or so for the rest of it, and I'll only be using one coat for most of it... that'd work perfect if I could get it for the same price.

Re: How long should I wait?

I got it on clearance at lowes. I bought all 6 gallons that they had at my lower store. There was not a lowes store within 150 miles from here that had any more or i would have went and got it from another store. The lowes Item number was "4449" if you want to call some of the lowes stores around you and give someone in the paint department that number and they can tell you if they have any and give you a price. Good luck. Ive used this stuff before and even when you have to double and triple up on layers it works pretty well. You just have to sand it a little in between coats and it bonds perfect if not better than anyother ive used. Good luck
