I recently purchased a great little used motor - 1972 6hp Johnson 2-Stroke. When I got it, it had a very worn out Two-Blade Prop on it (8 x 7 1/4). I have since seen both two and three blade props on these motors. I want to replace this very worn out prop, but I'm not sure which to get 2 or 3 blades.

In the exploded drawings it's kinda hard to see conclusively which prop they are using.

The part # is 385319 but I have seen in this forum #387334 (8 x 7) which I know is a three blade prop.

Which one came on the original motor...?...Please Help...!

Thanks In Advance

I can tell you firsthand that the '72 evinrude 6 came with a 2-blade prop.

387334 was an available option. It came as standard on a '76. Either one will work. Frankly, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference unless you have a tachometer and GPS. The '72 was semi-weedless, if that matters where you boat.

Yep, weedless does matter where I go. I think I'll stick with the 2-Blade.

Thanks Guys !!!
