How many carburetors on my motor?

Hi, I'm going to be taking apart and cleaning my carburetor(s) because I fear they are gunked up because the boat sat there for 3 years. I have my Seloc and it mentions different carburetors and different numbers based on the HP of the motor. Based on my HP i'm guessing I have 4 carbs but want to make sure before ordering the kits. My friend is going to help me, he knows more about it, but he's not here to help me figure it out. I was trying to look on the motor and can't really even see the carbs. I think they are covered up with a plastic casing perhaps?

My motor is a 1993 Johnson J120TLET 120 HP Outboard.

Here is what my Seloc says to make me think that I have 4 carbs.

"Carburetor C Double Throat
V4-120,130, & 140 HP - 1992 and on"

"The 'Double Throat' carburetor 'C' consists of tow individual carburetors mounted on a double butterfly throttle plate. A combination of two or four 'double throat' units are mounted on the V4, V6, or V8 powerheads."

Can anyone help me out here? Pictures or diagrams would be helpful.

Thanks,

Re: How many carburetors on my motor?

Just got in to the motor last night and turns out the Seloc was correct, a combination of 2 double throat units. There was 4 individual carbs. I only ordered 2, but ordering more now. 2 at first and having to order more is better than ordering 4 and having 2 left overs.

Thanks for the help tho and the part link is still awesome, used it for other parts a few times already.

Actually, it depends on how you define what constitutes a carb. Those motors have either two dual throat or 4 carbs. If you count float bowls, and venturis, that motor has 4 carbs. If you count throttle plates, the motor has two carbs. OMC counts them both ways.... But you need four carb rebuild kits, when you plan to rebuild them.

Absolutely. Times 4 are my thoughts. A float bowl = a carb in my book whatever is hooking it up to the rest. Always have enough spares that way.

This is what I tell customer that call for carb information:
All carbureted "looper" V engines use 1 carb per cylinder, the "crossflow" engines use a dual throat single float style, so if you have a crossflow divide your cylinder count by 2 and thats how many carb kits you need.

Fazt, Are the Crossflow V6s said to have "Two three-barrel carbs?"

No... They have (3) 2barrel carbs. Crossflow V-6 = 6 cylinders divided by 2 = 3 carb kits

The cf V6 has 3, two barrel carbs.

The V4 looper has 4 carb bodies and 2 dual throttle bodies. There are 2 carb assemblies per V4 looper motor. Each carb assembly consists of 2 carb bodies and one throttle body.

You'll need one carb kit for each carb body.

sorry about steering you wrong ,see what happens when you dont have a manual, lol.i wrongly assumed it was the same as my 90 (1982)which has dual throat carbs and 2 kits did the job.when i think of 4 carbs i still think merc sometimes with 4 or 6 distinct carbs .1992 is way too new for me!matter of fact 1982 is way to new also, lol.
