How many drain plugs on a 1996 Mercruiser 4.3LX Gen+ (Thunderbolt 5)

One of the marine techs from one marina said there was there are 4 (1 on each side of the bolck and 1 on each side of the exhaust manifolds). The other marina said there was 5. I asked him where the "5th" one was and he repied with, "I'll tell you for $250.00! Thats there winterizing price. I have looked upside down, rightside up, in and around, and in between. I only see 4 plugs! It does have power steering and thats about the only other thing that I could see that makes it different.

It varies a bit but in most cases there are 2 for the block, 2 for the manifolds,additionally there may be 1 on the large hose from the circ pump to the therm housing, and 1 in the power steering cooler or "cool fuel" unit.

for $250.00 you could heat a small building for that or take it to a place that has heated storage

I'd have called him some unprintable names, smacked him in the face and urinated on his head while he lay in the snow!

Have a look in your owners handbook, it should point out all the drain points. I have looked at the service manual (#18) and I see 2 on each side of the block, 2 on each manifold and one on the water tube on the port side of the engine, near the side mount.
