I went out last weekend is rained like hell. We are getting in the 40's (freeze warnings just north of me)
I was originally planning to winterize when the leaves changed. I looked at the kids schedules. It gonna take up every weekend into mid October. I thinking im gonna throw in the towel and start winterizing taking my time over a few weeks to detail and wax etc (I bought all my stuff and the dealer thought I was nuts :D ).

When do you winterize?

Re: How many have started winterizing

I just bought my first boat 2 weeks ago. Its at a marina and needs a good cleaning and many other small projects. I am going to take it out next week since its getting colder and I want some warmer weather to get some work done on it before I try to stuff it in the garage. Once I get it in the garage its not coming out until spring.

I like taking a ride to see the colors here in Wisconsin. Although we'll probably see freezing nights prior to this, I drain the block after use...so no real danger. Actual "Winterization"(removal of drive/oil change etc...)after the leaves drop and the raking's done(around Halloween).

What is this "winter" you speak of? We know it not in my land.

I will put up the boat when I get one last ride in to see the leafs change color. With that said I never really put her away. If we get an indian summer weekend I will take her out for a trip. Just put the pink stuff back in the block after the trip.

What? No August. You guys must have short skating seasons.
I usually do mine at the end of summer vacation as the boat is a hours from my house.

Will hold out as long as possible, but will not wait until it is below 30F daytime to winterize and put her away for a long winter's nap.

September is spectacular in the Rockies.

Winter is seeing the mountains covered with snow, while I'm standing outside in a Tshirt and shorts getting the boat ready for the lake. At least that's winter out here in my parts... :D

We normally still boat through mid-October, and don't see freezing temps till the end of October at the earliest. We winterize sometime toward the end of October or early November. Since our boats are smaller and stored in a nice shop, we don't spend too much time on winterizing. Engine water drained, oil changed, fuel treated, battery pulled. Wash it, clean the upholstery, throw a cover on it to keep the dust off. It doesn't take more than 2-3 hours all in all, so we have the luxury of waiting until the weather forecast tells us its time.

Didn't vote...didn't have January 1 on the list.
While I could boat / fish year round if I really want too, I usually put up for the winter after Striper season closes December 31.
The boat goes back in the water the 3rd week in March, unless we have an early Spring.

Don't know about you, but temps in the 30's and 40's is a bit chilly for me to be wearing shorts and a t-shirt. :D

Last year at this time it was already -10.
So yes, winterizing is on my mind.

Re: How many have started winterizing

Our lake is blessed with a 1000MW heater, so if we aren't in the field, we can sometimes squeeze out an October trip. Harvest will be late this year, so I'll hold off as long as it stays warm. My ramp closes Oct. 10, though. We built a heated shop this summer, so I should be able to push her into a corner and keep her cozy until I have time to do the job.
The thing I hate is that I usually don't get to "summerize" until late June because we're so busy with fieldwork from March until then.

No problem'o... I wouldn't wear shorts in 30-40* temps, but have done it when it's in the 50's. A couple of my friends wear shorts all year, might have a thick winter jacket on, but they are also wearing shorts. :der: I've been water skiing out here in November :watermelon:

Just the opposite, I slipped on my thermal coveralls fishing the other night... The low temperature was 80*, but on the river it was into the 50's due to the cold water cooling the air.

Those that talk about that cold stuff need their mouth washed out with soap. Marina is open all year-- I'm on the water all year.

Re: How many have started winterizing

I keep my boat in my garage in the pacific NW. Every year I debate whether or not I should winterize. Occasionally we get cold weather snaps... but it is hard to imagine it getting below freezing in the garage. So, sometimes I wonder if I need to winterize.

When I get it done, the oil, filter, fuel filter also gets changed, which is probably more important. Suppose I could do it myself, but the price is reasonable.

It is 90 degrees here today. September is usually great boating especially when everyone else puts their boats away.

I did that about 3 weeks ago, had a few nights just above 0, too close to freezing for my liking.
