How many pulls should it take ?

I have a '56 lightwin 3hp. It purrs like a kitten when running , but take 6-8 pulls, choked to get it to fire. I set the lever to "start", should I try it at 1/2 or full throttle? All new coils, plugs and conds. and rebuilt carb. Runs like a top ,just a little hard to get it to fire up. Once its runs only a few seconds and I kill it, it will start after one pull. -Thanks

Make sure the choke is closing.

Integral tank I beleive

Make sure you have a good flow from the integral tank and that you have allowed it long enough to fully fill the carb. Filter in tank clean ?

(In olden days carbs used to have a tickler button to press to make sure the carb was full and deliberately flood it a little Quite surprised this one doesn't)

Experiment with the throttle opening. Wider open may well help.

Those motors don't have a primer button - just gravity flow to carb. If the motor was run dry on the last use, then 6-8 pulls probably isn't unreasonable.

I have a 64 ducktwin, that I pull 2 times choked, open choke , pull again and it fires right up. gentle pulls at that.

I open the fuel valve, pause a bit to let the bowl fill up, slowly pull it through a couple of times to get some gas in the cylinders, choke it and pull it fast. It usually starts on the first real pull.

I got it, I had been running it dry and I guess not giving enough time for the bowl to fill . Now I choke, and pull it fires, push choke in and pull and it starts. -Thanks
