how many pulses on the Tahcometer - Force 85Hp 1988

Hi.

My tachometer from Quicksilver is now installed in my boat with my Force 85 3-cyl. how many pulses do I need to turn the "pulse" scrue over to. 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 -8...

The engine has a 20 pole alternator. Many tachometers for that engine have no adjustment; they are specifically for that alternator. Some with adjustments will have a tag on the back that says for example, use 3 pulses for 12 pole and 4 pulses for 20 pole or something like that. If it is a new tach with the adjustable setting on the back, and it doesnt say, it is probably the wrong one. Go back to where you bought it and double check with them.
