How many water pumps?

I know that I have a water pump on my engine...my brother swears that I must have one in my outdrive too. I have looked through my boat's manual, and it does not say anything about a water pump in the outdrive....my brother knows a bunch about boats, but I am starting to doubt him on this one.

I have a 2001 Volvo 3.0L GSM-A engine with a Volvo SX-M outdrive. Does anyone know for sure, one way or the other, if I have any type of water pump in the outdrive? My bro is saying that it is another maintenance item, and I need to replace both impellers..

Thanks for any info.

No raw water pump in the outdrive on any Volvo.
Your RAW water pump is mounted on the front of the crankshaft. Has 2 big hoses attached to it.
You also have a Circulation pump, that is just above the crankshaft. It's is what's known as a water pump in automotive lingo. But it does NOT have a an impeller that needs replaced as maintenance item.

Here is what your Raw water pump that is hooked to the crankshaft should look like.

Not high jack this thred, but how do you get the bearing housing off the crank shaft on that same water pump that was in the pic above? Its leeking water out from behind the bearing housing.

Thanks, Perry

Thanks Don - yea, that is exactly what my water pump looks like.

Reel Creel, um..that was pretty blatant hijacking....you will probably get more and better responses if you start your own thread..
