We have a (76)16' Starcraft we use for fishing and it came with one heavy anchor, maybe 30 lbs or so. I notice we drift in circles with only light winds and was wondering if most of you use a second one? We prefer to find a spot and fish there for a while rather than troll constantly.

I use one anchor when fishing. Drift in circle isn't much of problem as this actually turn the bow into the current or the wing, which reduce the possibility of take wake mid ship. However, if you want to reduce the drift, you can also use another anchor at the stern. Takes a bit longer to set it up, but it will reduce your drift.

Stern anchor is common for the reason you describe. With steady wind or current, it is not usually necessary and can be undesirable if you want to always face into the blow and/or chop and waves . . .

If you want to still fish, two anchors are necessary. Wind or current will cause a boat with one anchor to swing back and forth. It is not an issue for the boat, however, still fishing is compromised by the swinging.

One BIG problem we have is that the lake we frequent has a LARGE amount of trees in the water....so last week we found ourselves in places I did not want to be in....don't want to be suddenly surrounded by timber. Might be a bit rough to get out of without breaking trolling motor prop. I will add second one asap. Thanks!
