Re: How much Anchor do I need

depends on what kind. I have a 19 ft and got a 20 lb. navy anchor. I would get the biggest one you can afford/easily stow on the boat. that way you dont have to worry about it. then again, certain danforth anchors only weigh a few pounds but dig completely different.

I have a 15' runabout. How heavy of an achor do I need?

Help me out a little here,

Where do you go boating? Ocean, Lake, River?

Where do you anchor up? Beach, 20 ft depth, 100 ft depth?

Generally:
For a 15 ft runabout, you should only need an 8 lb traditional (Danforth) with about 4 ft of chain and 150 ft of 3/8" line.

If the bottom is sand or silt, a 5 LB fluke type anchor w/ 3/8" 3 strand line.

I'm just doing mostly lake fishing. Sand or mud bottom probably. I was probably looking at a mushroom type - sounds like 8-10lbs would probably be enough?

Since you asked, I'd still stick an 8 lb traditional (Danforth) with about 4 ft of chain and 150 ft of 3/8" line.

I have 3 danforth anchors in different weights for different purposes. The largest is for the ocean and has 15 ft of chain. A smaller one as a stern anchor for shallow water and one as a beach anchor. Each of these is line only no chain. I also have a couple of beach spikes. Equally important is having enough dock lines and fenders.

Well I got a 10lb mushroom and I'll see how well that works for me. The old tri-hull isn't that heavy. Will probably only be using it 25-30ft of water.

I have 3. two are navy style one is 5 and one is 8lbs. Both with 4' of chain. Then I have an 8 lb mushroom with an 8' chain. All are used on a 150' rope.

I normally anchor on a rock bottom lake. And the mushroom is for sand on the beach.
