I am doing an engine swap from a 1978 merc 1400 (L6) to a 1988 evinrude 120 (V4). Does anyone know how much either of these weigh?

I don't want too much more stern weight and the evinrude looks a good bit bigger. They both fit a 21" transom.

thanks

according to NADA boats, the 1500 is 275 so the 1400 should be the same. 120 is 375.

Re: How much does a merc 1400 weigh?

Thanks. That is great info. I don't have the owners manual and it was difficult to find the weights online.

old mercs rule:
I am hoping to fix and sell the 1400 if the evinrude works out. I was asking a lot of questions about it under the "thumping sound in 1978 merc 1400- video" thread. There is a video of the sound it was making there. I received some advice that it could be the top crank bearing which would be a $50 fix. Or it could be worse....
