How much does a Mercury 1500 weigh?

Hi, I just drug home a 1966 Larsen 16' that has a '73-'77 ( I haven't pinned it down by the sn yet) inline-six 150hp Mercury 1500. Boat, trailer, motor, all for $200. ;)

Anyway, the motor is too big for the boat, the transom isn't happy. I need to get this motor off of the boat, see what I need to do to the transom, and find a smaller motor for it.

I'm curious to know how much the 1500 weighs. I need to know if I can just lift it off by myself, or with a buddy, or do I need to figure out a way to get my engine hoist up that high?

A Seloc service manual also came with it all too, but that couldn't answer it either, nor did google, which brought me here.

If pictures will be of any help:

Thanks,
Jason

Jason, That motor is about 300#. You can lift parts of it yourself, but not the whole motor. Once you gt it off the boat two folks can drag/wrestle it to where you want it.

I drove a 1/2" lag bolt into the garage door header. I use a piece of steel plumbers strap which I made fit two of the eight 5/16" bolts around the flywheel nut. I connect the strap to a $20 cable hoist and pull it straigt up.

You will need a hoist. Don't even try to lift it by hand even with three people. You could hurt yourselves and/or damage the motor. A cheap hoist and lifting straps will cost you about $150.
