How much does a power pack & stator run for a Force 125

I have a 1989 Force 125 and it is generaly hard to start. I took it to the shop and they say it needs a power pack, stator and plugs. Their estimate is $845.00 bottom line. Does that sound resonable for that type of work?

parts prices are prox 356 stator and 307 cdi module...and about 2 hours labor

If you give me your model and serial number I will find out how much it costs....but just from a preliminary check...they sound like they are out to lunch on the prices, and guessing a bit too.<br /><br />TMD

I agree with TMD, the odds of all those parts going south simultaneously is pretty slim, get another opinion or a manual and a VOM and run the tests.

Thisoldboat,<br /><br />I have a 92/120 Force and both my switch box and stator went out, You'll here about a Red Stator, it's suppose to be an upgrade to your old 1, I don't even know if they recommend this for yours but mine they did. I didn't go with that and went with 1 from US Marine, I paid 175 for the black stator and about the same for the switch box, also the plugs are cheap at Wal-Mart, I would shop around, sounds like are a 500-600 dollars but not 800 and some change. The 89 is not the same as a 92. The magnet in the fly probley needs to be cleaned and reglued also. It could need a stator and pack, but the tech should be able to tell you the exact problem in detail with the voltage specs. The pack can not be check unless the stator is working, and if the pack is bad, it can drag the voltage down on the stator. You need a meter that reads peak volts to check the outputs of the stator and power pack. The wires are junk on this engine and need to be checked with a meter and the wiggle test (wiggle the wires when meter connected) if meter readings jump around, the small wire will be broke inside the plastic.
