how much for cables and new controls?

I am in the process of putting a recently purchased Merc "50 Classic"(1989), 4 cyl. 2 stroke engine on my boat(18 ft. Klamath). My question is how much would new controls and cables cost for this motor.<br /><br />Second question: Is it a good idea to replace the old cables when changing motors. I noticed that the controls were very stiff and not very sensitive. Thanks!

hi there the cables here are around 100 the control box new about 150 with install about 300

I got a box and cables used from www.twincityoutboard.com for 125.00 complete, worked good. New from the merc dealer, should run about 199.95 for the box w/o t'n't or about 240.00 with t'n't and the cables new should run about 35.00 each.

If there is any doubt at all about the old cables, I'd replace them. They have a way of failing at the worst possible time.
