How much grease ??

Hey guys,, just put in a new triangular engine coupler & driveshaft,,, how much grease does this set up take being brand new,, I put in 12 pumps of Castrol poly blue,, Let me know,,, finally getting this back together !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why stop at 12?

What if someone comes on here and says "OMG pull the engine and coupler. You over greased it and its gonna ruin your engine!!!"

You should have asked this question before you went crazy with your grease gun...

Kind of depends on what you're greasing. Assuming the coupler zirk, is the drive on?

Sorry Don,, 1985 Merc. 120 Alpha drive Merc. coupler # 12632A7 All new parts,,, was hoping to here some grease squeezing out,, but gun ran dry at 12 strokes so ,,,,,maybe a sign ????

Finally alignment went smooth once I figured out the right coupler to get !!!!!!!

Alpheus,,, where were you and all your knowledge/sarcasm when I was asking for help trying to figure out which coupler my motor needed !!!!! Hell I eventually figured it out on my own,, although Bondo and a few others gave me ideas to consider !!!

That fitting is used to lube the driveshaft with the outdrive attached, so any excess should squeeze out either end of the coupler shaft opening. Twelve strokes might be a wee bit more than needed;) but I believe our old friend centrifugal force will take care of the excess. Might get a little messy but should be fine. If you lubed the shaft well before putting it into the coupler, you should not really need to add any more. BTW lubing the shaft is a once yearly or 100 hr maintenance item.
