How much is 89 suzuki dt65 worth?

I don't trust the nada.com figures when it comes to engines and boats, but don't know how much this engine should be worth- Here is some more info<br /><br />1989 suzuki DT 65<br />-Immaculate inside and out, freshwater engine very clean under cowl, used one season in salt<br />-89 engine but bought in 91 <br />-Tilt and trim inclded and working<br />-controls included<br />-originial prop included and still in good shape<br />-compression all even<br /><br />going to check lower unit when I see it but was told it is in perfect shape, sounds like a low use engine but I don't know how much a suzuki like this would cost. I know nothing about the suzuki's and don't want to buy the engine only to find out I paid too much! I have no idea how they hold up in resale value... Any idea?

I don't know. NADA puts it at $400.00 average. Maybe $500.00 if real nice, with controls...

NADA values tend to be way low in regards to real world sales values. In my area that's a $1200-$1500 motor any day of the week... assuming it needs nothing (waterpump has been done recently, carbs aren't gummed up from sitting, hoses are new, etc.)<br />- Scott

to a guy with no boat its worth zero.<br /><br />to a guy who has a boat and realy really really wants to go fishing and his current motor is broken, its worth thousands.<br /><br />its an older motor, no matter ho clean it is, its still got 18 year old bearings and seals. id see it around here for about 600-700

It's an old Suzuki...parts aren't easy. This motor in perfect conditon where I live would be $500-600. NADA is right on for values in my zip...their web site for consumers is 10% below the published dealer book. <br /><br /> Low Retail Average Retail <br /><br /> <br /> $340 $405

Now that the comments are in, I can tell you what he is asking without biased results.<br /><br />He will take $700 for the engine but was asking $1000, I am thinking $700 with prop, controls, tilt, and an engine that was used in freshwater and starts "with the flicker of a key" is fair but maybe I will talk him down a little more. Also 120psi on all cylinders...<br /><br />And also, all those parts stated above were recently installed, he thought he was going to use the engine again this year until he found a bigger suzuki, this one wasn't really enough power for his boat.....
