how much is my boat and trailer worth?

i am not trying to get over on anyone and surely dont know enough about boats to even try.

It is a 1983 Rinker 16 foot bowrider. Mercruiser 120hp. From what I am told its issues are: boots on the outdrive to be replaced, probably needs the impeller replaced, the steering cable is suspect, and since i have not run it often over the last few months, the carb may need to be cleaned out again even though i had it serviced in august. the upholstery has been redone, the floor is pretty solid.

the trailer is in pretty good shape, no rust, new tires, new lights, bearings always greased well.

i had a handshake at 1200 but after the water test, the buyer was concerned about the way the engine performed and the problems that may come from the fule sitting for a few months. his last offer was 600.

How much water is in a raincloud? What is a 24 year old boat package worth?

Time of year, location, buyer's priorities, esthetics and selling style all contribute, whogotz.

You now know that it is worth at least $600. That's the bottom line: What a buyer will pay.

Goto nada.com ; then click consumer, then click the boats tab, then used boat pricing. From there, just follow the instructions. i didn't check for your particular boat, but when I bought my last one it gave me a ballpark figure. When I sell mine, I plan on using the site to show potential buyers it's approximate value. Keep in mind, you have to do boat, motor and trailer all seperate. As a package the price should be much less.

It sounds like it needs and easy 1000 dollars in work depending on how bad the bellows are

If they leaked and dammaged the drive it gets pricey :(

Might be better off donating it and then deducting the selling price from your taxes...If you plan on buying another boat, then trade it in instead of going through the hastle of selling it yourself to make a few hundred bucks.

If you are thinking of the donation route, check with your accountant and or make sure the organization qualifies for tax deductions and make sure you get a receipt. NADA.com will give you an idea what the deduction may be. I suggest you print the info and save it for the next tax year.

I hope this helps.

your better of donating in todays market a very underpowered boat. they all want the v-6 4.3, v-8 5.0 5.7. 7.8. with the work to be done, the $600 wasn't a bad offer.

Check with a tax professional before donating the boat.

I think the tax law has changed in 2007 for large donations such as a car or boat. Instead of deducting the "value" such as blue book value, I believe the new law states that you can only deducte the amount the boat (or car) actually is sold for by the charity. So you have to wait until the charity sells the boat and then only deduct that amount.

It is worth what someone is willing to pay for it and thats that. Find the right person and you may get a couple of thousand !!!! find the wrong person and its down to a couple of hundred.
Time of year, economic climate and even the weather can and will make a difference. Try selling a snowmobile in July !!!

Unless you find a fool, don't expect more than $1000 for it I'd say. Just too much needs doing, and THEN they have an old, small, underpowered boat. Can it be a fun boat? Sure, but not one that has much demand.

Also, when you say the floor is "pretty solid" I assume thee are some soft spots. If so (and even if not) there's a good chance there is a lot of waterlogged floatation foam under the floor in a boat that age. This would make it run sluggish due to extra weight, especially with that engine.

The parts may be worth more than the boat, who knows.

IF you find someone who is handy and can fix the items you mentioned and IF that's all the problems, you may get the $1200 for it or so. But it won't be an easy sell.

Trust me..donate it or trade it in. The minimum you can get next year from donating your boat is 500 bucks. If they sell it for more, you can deduct that amount. Last thing you need is to give someone a sea trial and have something expensive break...then you will have to pay to have someone take it...BTW- most charities will come get the boat for you.

If you want to sell it, try craigslist.org ...It is free to post and have heard from many that this free site sold their boat...And of course there is Iboats...There are no shortage of boats in your area and I think your boat would be a tough sell. Can you post a pic?

I don't "get" the donate it idea, unles he wants to make a gift to charity also. Say he donates it and it sells for $1000. He then deducts $1000 from taxes ASSUMING he itemizes it saves him maybe $280 on taxes or so. WHY? He already had someone offer $600. The math doesn't add up in his favor or even close.

It's basically worthless on a trade in also. No dealer wants to sell that boat so why would they pay for it?

Either take best offer (craigslist a good idea) or part it out then sell trailer.

Note that dsiedt reference is for the 2005 tax code. I'm pretty sure it changed for any donation of boats to charity after 2006.

Good points about the acutal savings in taxes and also trade-in value.

Sounds like taking the $600 and running might be the best option.
