I have a 1968 Saftmate. I has it out on rough water, and Im wondering how do I know how much is too much for the boat in terms of rough water?? Going 20 mph in 2 foot seas, the boat really hits quite hard. Can such a boat handle this without hull damage??

Thanks.

Re: How Much is Too Much

While most boats seem to really take a beating, I don't like to punish any of mine any more than I have to. If it sounds bad when it hits, it probably is. Water is hard and doesn't compress well, so the hull is taking the beating almost as if it were slapping down on pavement. The way I see it, if the hit jars your bones and teeth, imagine whats happening to the structure of that boat.

One way to look at it as well is that the only way to find out how much is too much is after it breaks, only then will you know it's true limits.
Myself, I'd usually rather not find out, I'm not that good a swimmer.
