How much is too much?

I just bought a 28' Rinker curiser/cuddy.. I have had her in the water 3 times this year. I got about 7 to 10 gallons out of the hull when pulling the drain plug this past Sunday. Also the two prior times. The bildge seems to be functioning just fine. But would not pump this water out while on the lake. Is this an large amount of dranage for almost 6 hours. I thinking a old transom seal may be the culprit. Bellows look really good.. Also there is no visable water while looking into the engine compartment. A friend told me that for a 28 footer that should be expected..

7 to 10 gallons in 6 hours is absolutely too much! Keep in mind a leak isn't just a minor annoyance, it is just a slow trip to the bottom. little leaks tend to become big leaks when you least expect it.

Unless you have a bunch of tubers/skiers/swimmers seven gallons is way too much, it should be dry. If you can't see the water in the engine compartment--next to the drain plug--where is it coming from?

Guess I will play it safe and replace all the bellows.. ( shift, exhaust and U-joint) I heard its very rare that the transom seal would leak.. Also my steering is squarrley at slow speeds.. Cant quite figure out where in the gimbal ring the steering bushing is... I think its at the top of the housing. Any info would be appreciated.. Thanks for the replies thus far..

Kidds, How old is the boat? I would not assume anything is safe since you just got the boat, check everything, could be that the rubber is just ready to be replaced, but I would definitely check all the bellows and seals, anything that penetrates the hull.

Good Luck
