My wife calls me iboats head. I brag to her (to defend myself) about how much money this board, along with my Seloc manual, has saved me. I can't put an exact number on it for a couple different reasons, but I've done a bunch of stuff to my boat due to help from this forum.

Replaced transom - money saved? I dunno, cost of a new boat?
Replaced stator - money saved? Probably a couple hundred bucks.
Rebuilt carbs - money save? Probably a couple hundred bucks.

Various other advice like "make sure you get a tach." probably save me several hundred dollars on new props that didn't work. Most importantly though is the ability of these experts to diagnose our problems which prevents a trip to the marina for every little thing. Not only that, I feel empowered to work on my own boat. I learned this on iboats. "When you work on your own boat, you become intimate with it."

I bet I've saved between $1000 and $2000 thanks to this board. Thanks guys!

iboats has not only saved me a lot of money, it's saved me a lot of time trying to figure stuff out myself or finding the info elsewhere. That's just as important in my book.

iBoats saved me from buying the wrong boat. The research available on this board is worth $,$$$s more than what any salesman can provide.

just think how much more you could save if ya had an oem s/m for your rig... ;)

me, i'm in the thousands too for savings from reading iboats forums.. and that's not including the education i'm getting from reading this forum either. the education could be (is) worth as much as the $'s i've saved in repair imho..

By not getting a head job and new risers, at least $1500 so far....more to come when I replace the impeller myself :)

Re: How much money has iboats saved you?

I think Iboats may have COST me money. I'm always thinking of something to improve.

I probably would have
...left the antifoul on the bottom
...Not replaced the impeller, which necessitated a machine shop removing bolts from the lower unit.
...not gotten a bimini w/stainless upgrades,
etc.
...not bought a polisher
...not restored the trailer

Sometimes (albeit maybe for shorter time) ignorance is bliss.

That said, this is by far the best working site I have found for helping owners get their craft in shape and keeping them running. I'm sure I added time to the outboard, and enjoment for the family with the bimini and ease of launch with the trailer upgrades.
