How much oil do I need?

I think the guys who did the rebuild on my 3.0L put too much oil in. It was over the full line before I changed it just now. I put in what the manual calls for, which is 4 Quarts, and it looks like it brings the level up to just a hair over the add line on the dipstick. Should I just dump in the other quart, or leave it at 4 as the manufacturer recommends?

Thanks!

Bond-o's right...as always!

The service manual justs tells you how much oil you need to bring home from the store...the dip stick tells you when you are topped off!

Happy boating!

FWIW, mine took about 5.5 quarts, and is just a hair under the "FULL" line on the dipstick. I can't understand why the manual says it takes 4. I would be seriously low with just 4 quarts of oil in there.

Make sure the engine is level first. A lot of people check the oil with the boat in a trailer that is tilted bow up.

when they did the rebuild did they replace the pan? And did they use the correct pan?

merc pans hold a quart more then a omc pan for a 3.0
