how much oil?

How much oil should I mix in a 1958 merc 58a (45hp)? I have read a couple of pages on people's opinions, but they have all been for 1960 and up. Mine is a 1958. I just got it running and have used about 3 gallons of 50:1, should I be doing something different?

I'd run 24-1...can't hurt, side with caution..(others might have more info)

check with your local merc dealer.i had a 1961 40 hp.ran it for years at 50.1 and sold it and years later its still running like a champ,also at 50.1.

That engine was built to run at 24 to 1
