Remove and replace the engine, There are shims made to fix a rear main seal or, replace it. Depending on your area, is could be as much as $1500 after the dust settles, (do you think anything else will be found during engine and sterndrive removal?)

That could get pricey.
Involved is:
Pulling/reinstalling the drive 2.5 hrs book rate.
Pulling/reinstalling the engine 3 to 4 hours.
Replacing the seal unk time, depends on having to remove pan/rear main brg.
Then there is always the little things you may want to replace since you are that far in to the project. - Engine coupler condition, U-joints, Drive service, short shift cable, etc.

Guesstimate between $900 and $1800 (labor) depending on shop rate per hour and if they are charging per hour or book rate. i.e. book for R&R drive is 2.5 hours. Real time for this could be as little as 45 min to hours depending on condition and clean up needed.

A "reputable" mechanic probably won't be the cheapest, but the cheapest may not be any cheaper if things have to be re-done by someone else later.

We see this a lot at our shop. We fix a lot of boats that people have paid near a grand or more to have repaired (or DIYs) only to have to charge them another $500 or more to fix it right.

Are you sure it's the rear main seal? Could be the drive seal leaking in to the drive bellows which is open to the back of the boat. Check your drive oil level.
