I have some pics of my transom, 20' chaparral, it has a molded swim platform which yeilds very little room, about how tall are the trim shocks? I have only about 6" to the bottom of the swim platform where the tabs should be (outermost section) I'm wondering if the shocks could be mounted to the bottom of the platform rather than on the transom? It seems if I were to mount them more towads the center there would be more clearance but performance may not be good, what do you think?

Call John at Nauticus. He can probably tell you how best to install them. I suspect there is not enough "meat" in the swim platform to take the pounding the upper actuator mount has to take. The actuators are about a foot long.

Remember, the actuators don't go straight up, they are perpendicular to the hull (at 90 degrees to the hull) so you might have enough room, but it does look tight.

I've already determined the ladder will have to be re-done, but there is only 6"-8" from the bottom of the hull at the outermost step to the where the swim platform begins. If someone who has smart tabs installed could measure the distance from the bottom of the trim tab where it meets the transom to where the shock mounts above that would help alot. If the shock is 12" long, then with the added angle I may just have enough room with the clearance I have. Thanks.

As suggested call John.

Allot depends on your transom angle. Mine are about 11" along the transom.

John sent me replacements for my 12" actuators. They are the newer style like what are used on the SX tabs, but have fittings for the older ss tabs. These actuators are only about 10" center to center. I have to lower the mounting point, but they will fit more transoms. They should easily fit your transom. I don't know if they are shipping them as standard with the ss now. Call to make sure you get what you need.

Similar situation on mine. I just had to mount them closer to the outdrive.
