I am kind of worried about going to heavy since the boat has low freeboards.

Ballast systems allow you to fine tune while on the water.

I would think a ballast system that can add up to 1000 lbs would do what you're looking.

I could rent you my mother-in-law for cheap...

Start with a bag that will fit in the rear locker behind the seat back. You might get 300# or more in there and not affect the interior space. That will make a noticeable difference and you can go on form there. Grabbing a moveable 155# Fat Brick also can let you try more weight and move it to see where the shape is best. Then, if you want, try borrowing bags from someone and see what difference the extra weight makes.

Don't forget to add a bit to the front as well. It can really help the shape of the wake.

Get more weight than you think you will need. You don't have to fill the bags all the way. If we put 400lbs in the front of our direct drive ski boat we end up with an amazing wake. We throw 1200 more lbs to the rear for surfing.

You're going to have to play around with the weight to see how your boat handles the extra weight and weight distribution. Go slow with it and build up a comfort level.

Another thing is to be really aware out on the water to other boats and the wakes they send your way. If you have some large ones coming your way you can position your boat to avoid to taking water over the edge or front. Seems that I take some water over the front of my boat almost every time out as the nose of my boat sits pretty low to the water.
