how much wheel play is normal

2005 nautic star 23' sport deck, i/o, alpia one, 5.0 merc with 60 hour on it. Question . . . I have about 3" rotation play (about 25 degrees +/-) in the steering wheel is that the best I can get by design? and it looks like a cable system or is it hydralic any ideas thanks Don

Ayuh,... Have you Looked to see if it's Cable or Hyd.,..?? We can't see it...

You also have to Look to see Exactly where the Slop is,...
You'll need Help to hold the drive,+ turn the wheel,+ then hold the wheel,+ shake the drive...

it has one 1/2" hose from the wheel back to a cylinder ram. its has a power steering pump so I assume its a hydrolic system. All play is in the unit under the dash behind the steering wheel. in the play area the wheel turns with no load until it comes to the load point 3" back and forth. at the load point the out drive will begin to move
