I saw this clip on TV a while back, just after the helicopter crashes the camara pans over to a pleasure boat with loads of people on, which is only about 200yrds away. <br />No one was badly hurt. The pilot was prosecuted and had his licence revoked, I can't think why!!.

What an idiot.<br /><br />About 10 years ago, I was at Eagle Mountain Lake and couldnt believe what I saw. The local sailboaters were having a regatta or something and were clustered together.<br /><br />An single engine amphibious plane crashed/landed in the middle of them. He hit, skipped once and then went in nose first. The first 6 feet or so of the plane went under. <br /><br />When it popped back up, the engine was idling and the pilot was slumped over his controls. The plane was just drifting around. <br /><br />The lake patrol arrived a few minutes later. After making sure nothing was broken(I assume), they cuffed and stuffed him. The engine was shut down on the plane and it was towed off.<br /><br />I never saw it on the news or in the paper. That nut should have had the book thrown at him though. It was a miracle he didnt kill someone.

Just pure stupidity. Why would you try to tow that little boat with that huge helicopter?<br /><br />Didnt the pilot think that tying the rop on the front of the skid might cause the front of the copter to go down when that amount of force was applied?<br /><br />Didnt the pilot think, hmmmm.... maybe I should just ease into it? Never realised the wife could fly !! serves the guy right for playing the hero.Anybody who goes out to sea with a mercury (with no spare motor) deserves what they get! evinrudes rule!! (on the odd occasion they actually run)

I read that book when it first came out. It is a great read. I wonder how his trial turned out?
