I have an 89 Evinrude 48SPL and was wondering if I am not taking it out on the water every week or so for a run in the water how often should I run it on the muffs just to keep things flowing?
Re: How often should you run an outboard on the muffs?
I do that everytime but what I was wondering was do you have to run it when it has just been sitting and not being used just to keep it in running order?

Running it is not the main concern. Allowing the gas to get old and stale is. Starting it up every week on rotton gas isn't going to do you any favors. Be sure to use fuel preservative in gas if you can't use it up in a reasonable time. Note that it doesn't do any good to pour the preservative in the gas that has already deteriated.
