Hi all, I have two motor I'd like to know if anybody could help me with the age of these motors please.

402 mercury 8046321

3.5Hp Mariner 642 S1085

The serial number on your 402 doesn't look right...should start with a 5 or 6, although 402's were early 80's.
I'm no good with Mariners, sorry.

The 402 is a 1977 built in Austratia and the 3.5 is a model 642 but should have a minimum of a 5 digit serial number.

In regard to the mariner, there should not be any letters in the proceeding 5 or 6 digit serial number. Assuming the 'S' is a '5', it is a 1977 model. If it is a '3', it is a 1974 model.

Apparently I'm no good with Aussie Mercs either!
I should have picked up on your location...sorry.

In another thread where someone was inquiring about their year (seems like a lot in the past week) I made mention that I had a nice one page 73 KB PDF for US Mercs which contains model, year, cylinders, and (beginning) serial #'s. It covers from 1960 to 1990.
Unfortunately, when I said just PM me, I was unaware that there is a checkbox restricting PMs to buddies and mods. As I only have one buddy, I would not have known if anyone PMed me.
Anywho, this is fixed. So if anyone wants it, I wasn't ignoring you! Please re-request with email.
