how reliable are you fuel computers?

I have a 30ft boat with crazy fuel gauges I don't trust, replacing the senders would be a major hassle. They are just not easy to get to with cutting up my deck with access hatches.

I have always wanted a fuel computer(s) for my twin 351 Pleasurecrafts.

How reliable are the fuel computers Navman/Northstart/ect for doing your fuel levels with the "remaining" feature. I know I'd be good with reseting the total fuel when I top off and I cannot see them being any less trust then my squirrely fuel senders, assuming these fuel meters work well.

Input from people with experience only please, no negative armchair quaterbacks w/o real data!

Thanks.

Let's move this over to the Electrics, Electronics and Trolling Motors (not engine) forum

I have a lowarance EP-10 which connects with the GPS, it has the abilty to display everything you could thing of from GPM and MPG to the range left on the tank

So far i have fond it to be spot on at speed but a bit off (leaveing more fuel than shown) with long periods of slow like going through locks

I have refilled 5 times with the unit and other than the lock trip found it was with in a 1/2 gallon over 85 miles (5 hours of run time)

They also make fuel level units that can take a 5 point calbabration to show a real tank level

I have a Navman 2100/Northstar 210 and it is very accurate. I did have a transducer failure but they replaced it no charge. For twin engines you will need two separate units. You cannot simply use two transducers and switch between one head unit as it can't keep track of two tanks.
