Hello again everyone krs1 here again. I'm curious how I should store my 1955 Evinrude fastwin between uses. I use it one-two times a week and flush it regularly and leave the fuel and air lines hooked up. Am I doing this wrong, what do I need to do if so? I can't search cuz I'm on an iPhone. Thanks for all info

Well, if you plan on using it year around, then just get a cover to put over the engine and leave it on your boat, but if you plan on puting it away for the winter, then I would just get an outboard motor stand and put it on it, in the garage. You'll want to drain the fuel system too.

I use it every week sometimes every other week. Should I leave the fuel lines attached and pressurized? This is a year round boat:)

No, I would unhook the fuel line. Just run the engine with the fuel line unhooked, when you're done. As soon as it misses once, shut 'er off.

Ok cool just want to verify. Unhook both the air and fuel or just the fuel? Sorry if a dumb question lol

We live on a lake and the pontoon boat/motor (1957 Lark) stays in the water all summer. I never unhook the gas/air lines. Motor is always ready to go. You could loosen the cap to release pressure in the tank.

If you unhook, just do so with the "quick disconnect" where the fuel line connects to the motor. It's not the matter of removing any lines and leaving others hoofed up. But lindy's idea is also good. Just leave it hooked up and loosen the cap on the tank and relieve the pressure. Just remember to tighten it back down, when you want to go again, or you'll be driving yourself crazy, getting the motor to stay running.

There is absolutely no reason to run the engine dry on fuel since you use it frequently.

No, there isn't. It's actually not good to run an engine dry on fuel at all, simply because it's also running it out of oil as well. If you run it out, till it misses once, then shut it off, then it's okay. However, if this is an engine that's going to be used year around, then no need to bother. Like lindy says, just loosen the cap on the tank to take the pressure off of the system.

To correctly get the fuel out of the system to winterize, then you want to pull the drain plug or high speed jet screw and get all the fuel out completely.
